Since Toad claims to be a Hyperion replacement, a current Hyperion user would expect at least a basic set of Hyperion-like features that could produce similar outputs for the end users.īut perhaps the biggest (non-technical) limitation, presently, could be the lack of a community. But the inability of an existing feature to perform in the way it is expected is certainly a deal-breaker. Although, a lack of functionality is temporary as those can be added in future releases. Toad, in its current state, has shortcomings and a lack of features which can cause challenges for users shifting from Hyperion BRIO or other BI reporting tools. But the inability of an existing feature to perform in the way it is expected is certainly a deal-breaker Challenges Although, a lack of functionality is temporary as those can be added in future releases. So editing one will not impact anything else, which can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the situation. However, unlike the workbook, it does not support 'steps' and each 'step' will be independent of each other, i.e., the query, pivot, automation files, etc., all will be independent of each other. Toad Data Point also has Query Builder and Editor options with Transformation and Cleanse and Pivot features similar to Workbook, along with additional features such as Report Designer and Automation. Strangely, it does not have a step to design reports. Each section, or workflow, starts with a query step, which can be followed by transformation and cleanse steps to clean up the query results, pivot steps, publishing and exporting options, etc.

However, it is not necessary to use the graphical 'Query Builder', instead the 'Editor' can also be used to write the query. The workbook is meant for business users with minimal or no SQL knowledge due to its graphical interface with drag-and-drop features. Out of the two, Toad Workbook is the one that is actually supposed to be similar to BRIO in terms of structuring sections and the query's subsequent steps. However, it isn't an exact replica and it comes with its own set of shortcomings.

Toad markets itself as "the perfect replacement" for Hyperion BRIO ( Why Toad® Data Point is the perfect replacement for Brio ()) having integrated many Hyperion features and functionalities. Currently, on version 6.0.x at the time of writing this post, Toad Data Point and its supplement Toad Workbook pose as an alternative to Hyperion Interactive Reporting Studio - BRIO, which is no longer supported by Oracle. Toad Data Point ( TOAD: Tool for Oracle Application Developers) is a reporting tool by Quest Software. Toad® Data Point is the “perfect” replacement for Brio.
